Evening sun bathes the Rhine and the surrounding Siebengebirge Mountains as a train and a boat puff in opposing directions and families stroll up the hillside creating an overall sense of the calm and peaceful passing of time.
Depsite being self-taught Jakob Schiener became a painter of great renown in his area and beyond. While well-regarded for his views of his native Siegerland, he was also noted for his depiction of Cologne itself, particularly his aerial views of the city. He exhibited at the World's Fairs in Paris in 1867 and Vienna in 1873.
