A powerful evening light bathes the spire and church of Saint Gertrude in Nivelles in Belgium only a few years before it was destroyed in the war in 1940. Froment was born there in 1873, where he had strong family roots dating back to the 16th century, prior to moving to Brussels where he spent a large part of his life.
